This ministry is named after Joseph of Arimathea, who tended to our Lord after his death and who appears in all four Gospels. Arimatheans are parishioners who assist the presider at funeral liturgies to offer comfort, hospitality, and sympathy to bereaved families.
At each liturgy, Arimatheans do their part in offering comfort to a grieving family, in the example of their namesake, who comforted Mary with his care for the body of Jesus. Arimatheans greet guests and serve as ushers, lectors, eucharistic ministers, and servers, as needed. Special training is provided.
